The Challenge
The installation of specialist systems into the existing building presented a significant challenge. For example, each dental chair in the centre of the surgery required power, water, suction, compressed air, and data, meaning that channels had to be cut into the existing floor and stitched back together with the guidance of the Structural Engineer to ensure building stability and longevity.
The client wanted a clean, crisp front of house with a contemporary look that would not be intimidating for patients and could hide all of the back-of-house functionality and storage.
The Solution
A clear and well-defined separation between public and private spaces was created to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and to create a fantastic customer experience. The key solution was to develop a two-corridor concept that utilised the deep plan of the existing building to create a professional and simple flow in the general circulation of the clinic while hiding the practical efficiency behind the scenes, offering a defined experience for both clients and staff.
The addition of X-ray machines in each surgery to promote privacy for the patient meant that our team needed to design and fit lead-lined walls and doors to protect the dental team. This additional functionality within the surgeries improves the client experience and reduces appointment times by eliminating room swaps and extra journeys through the building.
Our team handled every aspect of the project from planning, through detailed interior design, and onto construction and the management of specialist equipment fitting, ensuring that key dates for inspection were hit. This holistic approach has enabled the vision to become a reality and allowed the client to maximise the impact of their original brief to dramatically ‘change the game’ with regard to the dental offering in and around Northamptonshire.
