Our clients were looking to expand their traditional stone-built home and create more family-friendly living spaces. The existing property was characterised by poorly planned individual rooms, a lack of “flow”, and windows without a view or relationship to the garden. To incorporate spaces that facilitate modern family living, we sought to retain the property’s traditional charm while introducing contemporary elements that would seamlessly integrate with the existing structure.

The existing two-storey dwelling was situated at the end of a private driveway. The secluded plot sites an ‘L’ shaped property that lacks a meaningful connection between the living spaces and the rear garden. The western corner of the site remained unused and of low amenity value, while the key spaces inside the house, such as the kitchen/diner, had little to no view or access to the rest of the site.
The new spaces seamlessly flow, creating a sense of togetherness that carefully hides the fact that the house has been extended, and promotes entertaining family and guests both inside and outside of the reimagined home. Connection with the external private spaces has been prioritised, with views of the newly landscaped garden offering a picturesque backdrop to the living and dining spaces. A home gym and sauna were connected efficiently to the northern end of the property.
Our design successfully addressed our client’s desire for a more functional, connected and contemporary family home. The high-end design of this project demanded meticulous construction detailing to ensure a seamless flow between the old and the new spaces. The extension was completed in 2024, creating an elegant and visually appealing family home.
